Welcome to www.chris-horwood.com
One of Kent’s leading & most established guitar tutors
With 35 years experience of bass playing and over 25 years of acoustic/electric guitar playing, I have played guitar and bass for a number of mid-Kent rock bands over the past two decades and have been teaching in the Maidstone, Medway and Ashford areas since 2005. I currently teach 30+ students each week and have taught well over 275 students since I started.
I also have experience working with students with special needs, including ADHD, Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus, Autism and Cerebal Ataxia.
Specialising at beginner~intermediate levels, I teach all ages, from 7 years old upwards, the various styles and techniques of guitar and bass playing in a fun and interactive way. Theory work is a big part of learning to play, so to fully comprehend both the guitar and bass I use well known songs to demonstrate and help my students to understand, I also teach and add various soloing techniques to help encourage my students to practice in their own time. As they grow and progress I can teach them the methods, used by great musicians, to write their own songs.
If they so wish, students can also follow a syllabus leading towards the RGT electric guitar, RGT acoustic guitar and RGT electric bass grade exams. They can also work towards the London College of Music exams in Popular Music Theory.
The average marks gained by my students in their grade exams is 93%. To pass you need at least 65% and with a distinction you need 85% or more.
